Use of "Play Vehicles"

Use of "Play Vehicles" (such as golf carts) on Public Highways/Roadways

According to Texas State Law (Transportation Safety Code 551.404), a municipality may allow an operator to operate a golf cart on all or part of a public highway that:

  1. Is in the corporate boundaries of the municipality; and
  2. Has a posted speed limit of not more than 35 MPH.

A golf cart operated on a public roadway must have the following equipment:

  • headlamps
  • tail lamps
  • reflectors
  • parking brake
  • mirrors
  • slow-moving vehicle emblem

Without required equipment, your golf cart may not be operated on any roadways, and if you are found to be doing so, you may be issued a citation.

Please adhere to these requirements if you plan on using your vehicle on the roadway. Our goal is to maintain a safe environment for all of our citizens.
